I’m in a football stadium for the first time in years and I feel the cultural gulf that separates me from America. Football is controlled violence.
At a graduation ceremony and it’s a reminder how artificial it all is. Introducing a professor she mentions all his awards. And like the degrees the awards are just a social construct.
And the graduates are all dressed in the same color and it’s all an exercise in conformity. It’s ironic that a ceremony supposedly celebrating human rationality is such an exemplary example of tribal instinct.
There are few things more depressing than a large crowd of people, all doing the same thing.
